That is a question I asked myself after our house burnt down in 2019 and I did not know where to begin.
It is a question many people ask when they want to renovate, built or make changes. Don't overthink and complicate it.
The answer is simple. Begin at the front door. When you walk in and see cement and raw bricks, close your eyes and picture what you would like to see and how you want to feel when you are done with your project. From there it will unravel and all will fall into place.
Social media and Pinterest is a wonderful place to start create your mood board.
Once you know the color of your entry, the tile or paint you choose that will satisfy your taste, you are set to go. The tile or flooring material, wood or laminated floor, you choice should follow through the house to create flow and set the tone.
It is wise to choose a neutral color and have decor items as accent colors.
My advise is to first choose your flooring, then your wall color, fixtures, facets and lights.
Cupboards and carpentry for later.
Flooring
So many choices. You can pin it down to easy questions, how is the traffic in that specific space? Is it pet and child friendly? Exposure to water and sunlight?
In our house we had a second chance to make changes after tragedy struct us. We decided to keep the original tiles at the front door to keep the memories we have shared and combined that with a beautiful porcelain tile that looks exactly like wood flooring. We made the decision based on our family's needs. We stay close to the beach have 3 dogs and children so it is the most practical medium but with the perks of having the natural look and warm element that wood contributes.
